FUT suspends demonstration announced for Oct 30

“The government should understand that the suspension does not mean that workers are going to kneel before the power.”

The Unitary Front of Workers (FUT) suspended the demonstration scheduled for October 30 because several national and international organizations requested it. Also, because they reflected on how they would avoid infiltration during their protest.

The leader of FUT, Jose Villavicencio said they decided to suspend this activity at the request of the United Nations, the International Labor Organization (OIT), Quito’s mayor Jorge Yunda, as well as the Ecuadorian people.

The announcement was made a few days after the dialogue with the Government began; after 11 days of demonstrations on the economic measures proposed by President Lenin Moreno. They argued that they were excluded from this dialogue and that is why they decided to protest.

“The government should understand that the suspension does not mean that workers are going to kneel before the power,” Villavicencio said.

Meanwhile, Mesias Tatamuez said another reason is that they reflected on a question asked. “How are we going to avoid infiltration. As citizens, we are worried about that.”

Labor reforms -for which the union expressed dissatisfaction- have not yet been sent to the National Assembly. According to government authorities, they will expand the dialogues with other sectors.
