“I did not know I have to ask for visa to travel in Ecuador,” VP to Iza

The Government expressed its solidarity with the Vice President and rejected the Indigenous leader’s threats.

“We are not going to respond to hate with hate. Since I started, I have traveled all over the country. I did not know that I have to ask someone for a visa to travel in Ecuador,” Vice President Otto Sonnenholzner said in response to the statements of the indigenous leader, Leonidas Iza, who warned him that he could face indigenous justice.

“I will continue visiting all the communities, not only indigenous but also montubias, afro and from all over Ecuador who want to talk and listen to the vice president,” he added.

In a statement, the Government expressed its solidarity with the Vice President and rejected the threats issued by Iza.

“Too bad there are voices that continue betting on the conflict, dispute, and division,” reads the document, stating that the President, Vice President, and Government officials “will continue working for the common good, without falling into provocations and without stopping in this type of intimidation, which must be analyzed by authorities.”
