At least four children were killed in an attack by a man armed with an axe in a school in the municipality of Blumenau, in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, the Military Police (PM) confirmed on Wednesday.
The G1 portal reported that the unidentified 25-year-old criminal broke into the Cantinho Bom Pastor children’s education center with an axe, attacked the children and then turned himself in at the PM battalion.
In a statement, the Santo Antônio hospital reported that it received four infants, victims of the attack on the nursery.
They were attended to by the emergency team and the families are receiving support from the multi-professional team of the institution.
Santa Catarina Governor Jorginho Mello stated in an official press release that it was with great sadness that he received the unfortunate news about the attack on the private Cantinho do Bom Pastor kindergarten, in Blumenau.
