AEMAJ’s lawyer said that if an action is initiated against the judge, the association is willing to defend her.
The Ecuadorian Association of Magistrates and Judges (AEMAJ) rejected the document published by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) on the Rebellion Case, which investigates Paola Pabon and Virgilio Hernandez.
The AEMAJ is opposed to any action that violates the principles of independence and judicial career, especially if they are the result of the practice of widespread intimidation in the past or an attempt to address jurisdictional decisions based on the misuse of social media.
This occurs after Judge Patlova Guerra’s decision to grant alternative measures to Pabon and Hernandez, such as the use of the electronic shackle instead of pretrial detention.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the defendants would have participated in the alleged lack of knowledge of the Constitution and attempt to overthrow the Government through violent acts. The institution indicated that it will study the legal actions that sanction the crime of prevarication.
