Activist Manu Pineda is banned from visiting Prefect Paola Pabon

Manu Pineda asks to end the political persecution to the opposition.

Izquierda Unida Congressman and Human Rights activist, Manu Pineda tweeted a video saying that Ecuador’s Foreign Ministry has prevented him from visiting the prefect of Pichincha Paola Pabon, who is being held at Cotopaxi’s Social Rehabilitation Center since October 15.

Pabon along with her assistant and another person were prosecuted Tuesday for the alleged crime of rebellion. Against her, there is a preventive detention order issued by Pichincha’s Provincial Court President, Julio Arrieta.

“An opposition hunt began (…) We will continue working to end the repression; to purge those responsible for this repression; to release political prisoners and to heal the victims,” Pineda said.

Pineda added that this will be the commitment because he is sure that the Ecuadorian Government would have something to hide in this kind of process.

“I have formally asked the Foreign Ministry to let me in and they have not allowed me because they have things to hide. If they had no things to hide, they would have no problem for me to visit Prefect Paola Pabon.”

In this context, Pineda met with Ecuador’s Human Rights Undersecretary Andres Segovia to present his complaint about the constant obstacles that the Ecuadorian Government would be putting to prevent him from meeting not only with Pabon but with other political prisoners.
