Provincial Council must comply with IACHR’s decision.
Paola Pabon’s lawyer, Ramiro Aguilar reported the reasons why the Prefect of Pichincha would not lose her position.
In a statement addressed to Alexandro Tonello, Aguilar explained the decision of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) on the precautionary measures granted to Pabon and what they imply.
Aguilar clarified that the IACHR called on the State to fully respect the political rights of the people elected by popular vote.
He added that the Provincial Government cannot make any decision that violates the precautionary measures provided by the IACHR in favor of Pichincha’s Prefect.
In this context, Aguilar asked the Provincial Government Council to accept the IACHR’s call and refrain from incorporating the removal, dismissal or any affectation to Paola Pabon’s position.
