Respect was all they asked for.
The President of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), Jaime Vargas responded to the statements of President and Vice President who reproached the attitude of the indigenous leaders for allegedly preventing them from visiting the country.
The indigenous leader said that the authorities need to read the Constitution and know the indigenous peoples’ rights.
“These two citizens, these two public workers still need to read Ecuador’s Constitution and know peoples’ rights.”
He also explained that they do not need a visa to visit them and that respect was all they asked for.
“Nobody told the Vice President that he has to ask us for a visa. No one said it. The only thing we said is that there should be respect for organizations.”
