Ernesto, the oncilla that was found with second and third-degree burns died from cardiorespiratory arrest. The animal was rescued with 30 percent of his body burned.
Ernesto was trapped in a sugarcane plantation due to the burning of stubble or fallow, which are residues of stems and leaves left in the ground after cutting a crop.
The director of Mansion Mascota, Eliana Molineros explained that some people found him in Roberto Astudillo parish and took him to a veterinary clinic in Milagro, where he received first aid. On November 7, several members of the Environmental Police Unit (UPMA) took the animal to Mansion Mascota.
