This Tuesday, July 13, 2021, the first death of a person infected with the Delta variant of Covid-19 was confirmed. This is a woman over 40 years old from the Santa Rosa canton, in the province of El Oro.
This was reported by the mayor of this canton, Larry Vite, who also said that the patient underwent the corresponding tests to confirm her death due to this variant.
The authority indicated that the woman’s family is part of an epidemiological fence, to monitor the transmission of the virus in her family circle.
He regretted that the results of the antigen tests, to rule out or confirm more cases of the Delta variant, are slow to arrive, so he asked the public to comply with biosafety measures.
“We have met with the Provincial COE, led by Governor Francisco Vera, to seek the necessary prevention mechanisms to prevent this situation from becoming complicated and thus preserve the life and health of the family from Santa Rosa and Orense,” explained Vite.
The mayor announced that this afternoon, the Provincial COE will meet with the Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, to take the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the contagion of this variant, which has a 60% higher transmissibility. Likewise, the mayor did not rule out a possible confinement throughout the canton of Orense.
Yesterday afternoon, the Minister of Health confirmed the presence of the Delta variant of the coronavirus in Guayas and El Oro, in ten people of which two are in the main port and eight in the province of El Oro.
