The former government minister is part of the Latin American and Latinx Studies Program

The former government minister, María Paula Romo, became one of the new professors at the University of Pennsylvania, in the United States. The former government official of Lenín Moreno joined this educational center as part of the Latin American and Latinx Studies Program.

Romo now lives in the United States, together with her husband Iván Granda, but in the country she still has several pending legal proceedings. She is part of an investigation process for crimes against humanity in the protests of October 2019, although she has not appeared at these hearings on several occasions.

In the same way, the former minister is investigated for alleged influence peddling and corruption in the distribution of hospitals that occurred in the country in the Moreno government and has several public officials detained, although the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) does not has ruled on the progress of these investigations.

Romo and Iván Granda also faced accusations for the use of the National Police helicopter for vacations, although this investigation never prospered and the impeachment that was initiated against them also did not obtain the necessary votes for censorship.

It should be remembered that, on November 25, 2020, María Paula Romo was censored and dismissed from her position for failing to perform duties on the violent events in the 2019 national strike.
