In Ecuador there is 25% absenteeism in the vaccination process against COVID-19

At various vaccination points there are empty chairs. While in other places, citizens line up and wait to be vaccinated against COVID-19. In phase 1 of the 9/100 inoculation plan there are two marked scenarios, according to the authorities.

Days ago, the Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, acknowledged that there is an absenteeism in several provinces, such as in Pichincha, where 25% of those summoned did not attend. The reasons are diverse, but the vaccination centers point out that there is a constant: people leave if they are not vaccinated with the brand they want.

“I will not get vaccinated with Astrazeneca because I want Pfizer or Sinovac. Because of these controversies, absenteeism is marked, ”said Nayib Chagerben, chief of operations of the vaccination centers in Guayaquil.

In the smaller cities, absenteeism is greater and fear or misinformation in the inhabitants is reflected in the low attendance to vaccinations. For this reason, the Government unified some points. In addition, it analyzes expanding the age range to receive the vaccine.

Because, on the other hand, citizens are lining up in the hope that they will receive a dose. However, they are not yet in the age range.

So far, 2,480,014 people received the first dose and 1,245,371 are fully vaccinated.
