(Prensa Latina) A prominent Peruvian analyst on Tuesday warned that if Peruvian candidate Pedro Castillo were to win the presidency in a close vote next Sunday, his rival, Keiko Fujimori, will refuse to accept it, alleging a non-existent fraud.
Political analyst Fernando Tuesta, former head of the National Office of Electoral Processes, made the prediction in a conference with the foreign press, offered along with commentators Giovana Peñaflor and Gonzalo Banda.
Banda, in turn, criticized a campaign of a right-wing TV station that claimed that there are deceased citizens registered in the electoral roll, which indicates that they are trying to make them appear as voters in favor of Castillo.
Tuesta recalled that in 2016 Keiko Fujimori refused to recognize her defeat in a ballot against Pedro Kuczynski, by 40,000 votes, and assumed with her parliamentary majority a hostile position towards the ruler, which caused instability.
‘I believe that Castillo’s triumph will not be recognized if the percentage in his favor is small; they will accuse the electoral bodies of being associated to an alleged fraud,’ the expert expressed, denouncing a campaign through Internet networks that seeks to install this idea, in a false and irresponsible manner.
Peñaflor pointed out that, far from favoring Castillo, the National Jury of Elections (JNE) and the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) allow inequities such as the majority of the press favoring Fujimori and the use of large resources in indirect publicity made by third parties in favor of the candidate.
