Kichwa communities close the Puyo-Baños road in rejection of mining

This Thursday, May 27, 2021, the road blockades continue. The Puyo-Baños road was closed by Kichwa communities to demand reparation measures from mining companies in the sector.

They claim that mining companies are causing damage in their territories. “We want urgent dialogue with the competent authorities,” says one of the posters carried by one of the protesters.

«We are with our community because they are in our territory. We are psychologically damaged ”, claimed one of the inhabitants of the sector.

After 11:00 am, the measures in fact continued in different points of the access roads around the territory of the San Jacinto del Pindo Commune. They explained that they will not withdraw until the conversations they held with local authorities are completed.

The blockade of this road joins the two registered yesterday, in Imbabura and another in Guayas.
