(Prensa Latina) At least 200 rallies and marches against Bolsonaro´s government, demanding life in the face of the alarming Covid-19 death toll, were reported across Brazil.
Under the so-called #29M, demonstrations had three great demands: ‘Bolsonaro Out’, ‘the vaccine in the arm’ and ‘food on the plate.’
The protests denounced Bolsonaro for rejecting anti-Covid-19 vaccine offers, discouraging immunization and advertising drugs such as chloroquine without scientifically-proven effectiveness.
Demonstrators also criticized the new emergency relief approved by Government, dropping from R$600 (US$108) to R$150 – 300 (US$27 – 54), insufficient resources to prevent part of Brazilian people from being dying of hunger.
The concern to avoid the spread of coronavirus was well supported by many protests who used face masks and observed social distance.
Before beginning his speech, Guilherme Boulos, leader of Homeless Workers Movement, asked for a minute of applause for the more than 450,000 Covid-19 victims in the country and Bolsonaro´s ‘neglect and genocide’.
‘It´s time to call for a halt and remove Bolsonaro from presidency. We will no longer wait through 2022 while our people die. The time has come to sow a project of hope and today is only the beginning. We take to the streets with responsibility and no fear of fighting,’ said Boulos.
Federal MP Gleisi Hoffmann, president of the Workers’ Party, also spoke during the demonstration. She recalled that, in addition to the ¨Bolsonaro Out¨ agenda, today’s fight is for more vaccines and decent emergency relief.
‘We are here opposing the government of hunger and death. We are tired of this moment Brazil is experiencing. Whoever is here is not wrong, whoever is wrong is Bolsonaro who makes us be here,’ Hoffmann stressed.
