Night of terror in Colombia due to police repression

(Prensa Latina) More than 40 Colombians were injured after strong repression by the Mobile Anti-Disturbances Squadron (ESMAD) against peaceful protesters, in Portal de la Resistencia (Portal of Resistance) in Bogota, several sources reported on Sunday.

‘Portal de la Resistencia confirmed that more than 40 young people and some children were injured, three young people with eye injuries and one of them lost an eye. Another night of terror in Colombia. This is State terrorism,’ the Comunes party denounced. The party also charged that ESMAD repressed human rights’ defenders and prevented the arrival of ambulances to pick up the wounded.

Police violence against peaceful demonstrators was excessive, like every night, despite the efforts by the National Unemployment Committee and the Government to solve the crisis.

The Ivan Duque administration assures that it deals social mobilization with ‘democratic disposition’; however, the events show otherwise.

The crisis in Colombia continues and President Ivan Duque’s Government insists that the police use all force instead of finding a negotiated solution to the social unrest that broke out on April 28 to protest against a proposed unpopular tax reform.
