Human Rights defenders seek to counteract crisis in Colombia

(Prensa Latina) Human rights organizations in Colombia will establish a space for dialogue with citizens to jointly create proposals to face the current situation in the country.

The meeting will take place in the vicinity of the Portal of the Americas in Bogota, renamed the Portal of the Resistance for being a place of protection for protesters against police repression.

The organizers plan to hold a popular assembly in which they will analyze the way forward in the face of violence exercised by the riot police against the demonstrations that began in Colombia on April 28th, with a balance of over 40 dead, dozens injured and missing, among others excesses.

The actions to continue the social struggle against the government of Ivan Duque will also be analyzed.

For its part, the National Strike Committee decided after a meeting with its departmental counterparts to maintain the mobilizations in Colombia, strengthen and expand them in light of the attitude of the government of Ivan Duque.

It was pointed out that the Duque administration is deploying an offensive of repression, death and violation of the human rights of the participants in the mobilizations.

It was agreed to hold the next sit-ins on Monday and Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. local time, in the Plaza de Bolivar in Bogota, when the plenary sessions of the Senate and the House of Representatives are called.
