“Colombia Resiste!” Colombians residing in Ecuador show solidarity with their compatriots

Colombians residing in Ecuador reject the tax reform and stand in solidarity with their compatriots who have endured seven days of intense police repression. Colombian citizens residing in Ecuador raised their voices outside the Colombian Embassy in Quito.

“Resist Colombia!” shouted the protesters gathered in the diplomatic headquarters of their country. The claim is the same: “reject the neoliberal policies of President Iván Duque,” said a Colombian citizen residing in the country.

They were not alone. Ecuadorians and Ecuadorians also joined this peaceful sit-in that was held in the capital. They carried posters, music and their voice.

“Jesús Flores, Alexander Laso, Andrés Rodríguez, Edwin Villa, Miguel Pinto, Santiago Murillo”, are some of the names embodied in one of the columns of the building and that have been victims of police repression.

Other names were located in the stands. Candles were lit in his memory and his voice became stronger: “Uribe, paraco, the people are angry.”

A large cloth was spread with the phrase: “Quito Anti Uribista.” Former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe, in a message four days ago, defended the actions of the police and the military and their right to use weapons in the framework of the protests that, according to the Colombian Ombudsman’s Office, at least 19 people have died. . The entity also reports that there are more than 800 injured and 87 missing persons. While social and human rights organizations, such as Tremors, count 26 dead.

“The people’s struggle will not stop, until in Colombia they stop killing,” the protesters shouted, while the candles remembered the lives of the victims of police violence.
