Due to the overflow of the Teaone River, in the Tabiazo rural parish, in the south of Esmeraldas, it was decided to carry out the evacuation of around 40 families who were affected by the flooding of their houses, it was reported on May 3, 2021.
This emergency was in the 18 de Febrero neighborhood, of the Esmeraldas parish, due to the persistent rain that began on Sunday night and lasted until the early hours of this Monday.
Several families improvised wooden rafts or vans in order to evacuate their belongings between household goods and appliances to safer areas.
Ivers Quiñonez, president of the parish GAD, asked the local authorities for help to relocate the families to another place since the strong winter storm causes these inconveniences with much recurrence.
The torrential downpour accompanied by electrical storms also flooded several sectors in the south of the Emerald capital, said driver Nestor Calvopiña. Meanwhile, firefighters and lifeguards monitor the Esmeraldas River, which overflowed, flooding the Luis Vargas Torres, Pianguapí and Roberto Luis Cervantes islands last week.
Unfortunately, the winter even affected the production of drinking water for Santo Domingo de los Colorados, in the Tsáchila province, due to the turbidity levels of the Lelia River, which prevents the normal uptake of the element.
The Municipal Public Company of Potable Water and Sewerage of Santo Domingo (Epmapa-Sd) communicated, that for four days these inconveniences that prevent the purification and normal distribution of the vital liquid have been reported.
