Ecuadorian girls abandoned on the US border were taken to a shelter in Illinois

The two Ecuadorian girls, ages 3 and 5, who were abandoned by human smugglers on the US-Mexico border, were transferred to a specialized shelter in Illinois.

This was reported by the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry, after steps taken by the Ecuadorian Consulate in Houston. This transfer takes place while your family reunification process continues.

This process could take about six weeks until the sponsors (parents or relatives) present the required documentation.

Until then, the two Ecuadorian girls will have all their needs covered and will be able to communicate daily with their parents, who currently live in New York City.

The case became known, on April 1, through a video that captured the moment in which minors are thrown from the top of a 4-meter wall, from the Mexican side into the North American desert. The US authorities launched an operation to rescue them.
