In Ecuador 416 doctors and more than 100 nurses have died due to the coronavirus

The president of the Ecuadorian Medical Federation, Santiago Carrasco, indicated that 416 doctors and more than 100 nurses have died since the start of the pandemic. Similarly, he stressed that more than half of doctors and health personnel would be thinking of leaving the profession; since, the situation of the coronavirus strongly affects their daily life.

Carrasco warned that the epidemiological curve, published by the Ministry of Health, has biases and, because of this, people do not take protection measures seriously in the pandemic. This would cause healthcare personnel to collapse and attempt to leave the profession.

“We see that half of the doctors are thinking of leaving the profession and leaving their jobs, they do not see a pleasant future, they see very complex and aggressive situations, unfortunately, people do not understand the seriousness of this situation.”

In the same way, he revealed that 416 dead doctors and more than 100 nurses have died from the pandemic, but there are also alarming data from dentists, psychologists, orderlies, therapists, cleaning personnel and ambulance personnel.

“The MSP says that only 76 doctors died, but they want to hide the figures so as not to see our poor reality, because there is an abyss of difference between their data and our figures.”

On the other hand, he stressed that the psychological treatments that medical personnel receive is very light and does not address the fundamental problems they are facing.

“There should be a kind of situational goal on this problem, so that health personnel have access to psychological support, which is essential, but it seems that this is not a priority for the Government.”
