Guayaquil registered more than 3,000 deaths in March

In March alone, more than 3,000 people died in Guayaquil, now cemeteries are looking for a way to increase their capacity.

In Jardines de la Esperanza they went from 40% to 60% of the total daily deaths and like this cemetery there are others in the Main Port that every day show off citizens who fire their loved ones.

Gisella Quispe, services manager at Jardines de la Esperanza, commented that the increase was registered in the last two weeks.

The tombs are being occupied every time. In Jardines de la Esperanza, for example, 12 people die from Covid-19 every day. A figure that continues to rise and because of what they have seen in the need to make extensions.

Magali Pincay lost her husband, who died of coronavirus.

The woman reported that her entire family was infected, but that her husband was the only one who did not overcome the disease and was hospitalized at the Teodoro Maldonado Carbo.

Miguel Delgado was infected and overcame the disease, but he is still in that environment because more victims arrive at his funeral home every day. He said that since the last two weeks the cases have continued to increase.

“We remain in anxiety because it affects us too. I was one of those who already had the virus and thank God and the doctors I am here again, “she said.

According to data from the Civil Registry in Guayas, in January of this year there were 2,648 deaths, in February there were 2,442, but in March the death toll reached 3,001 people.

Meanwhile, the cantonal COE reported that 32 people die from the virus every day in Guayaquil.
