In Ecuador there are five new cases with the Brazilian variant of Covid-19

Five new cases of coronavirus with the Brazilian variant (P1) were confirmed in the last weekend in four provinces of the country. This was confirmed by the Minister of Health, Camilo Salinas, this Monday, April 26, 2021.

At a press conference with the authorities of the National COE, in which the director of this institution, Juan Zapata and the Minister of Government, Gabriel Martínez, were present, Salinas explained that two cases were detected in Pichincha, one in Manabí, one in Loja and one in Tungurahua.

These new infections are in addition to those already identified last week in Manabí, Loja and Zamora. The minister warned that the contagion with this variation would reach a phase three, during the next days; In other words, it would become communal.

“It is a variant that can be determined to be community, with the five cases this weekend,” he emphasized.

Regarding the C37 variant, a strain identified in Peru and Chile, the Minister of Health reported that cases have been detected in the province of El Oro (1) and in Pichincha (1). He further explained that this variant has a 60% higher transmissibility

On the other hand, he added that the results of the confinement, in the health system, will be reflected within the next 15 days.

For his part, Juan Zapata stressed that, at the moment, there are 463 people waiting for an Intensive Care Unit: of these, 413 patients are waiting at the IESS and 50 in the hospitals of the Ministry of Health.

This Monday, April 26, at the national level there are 374,775 infected people, diagnosed with PCR tests and 18,300 deaths, between probable and confirmed with the virus.
