Over the weekend, the country had more than 1,900 hospitalized, between stable and serious, due to the complications of COVID-19 at the national level. This Monday, April 19, 2021, is the third consecutive day with almost 2,000 patients.
Unions of medicine, nursing and epidemiologists have reiterated that the health system is saturated. Although there is no more space available, hospitals continue to receive infected. Therefore, they ask for a total confinement to give hospitals a break.
On Friday, April 16, there were 1,879 hospitalized, on Saturday it rose to 1,928, on Sunday it reaches 1,953 and this Monday it reaches 1,969 patients: 1,334 stable and 635 with a reserved prognosis.
The sustained increase in hospital occupancy comes from the end of March. Since April 7, more internees have been reported. Hospital discharges are minimal compared to the waiting list that reached 395 people to access an ICU bed.
According to today’s report from the Ministry of Health, in the last 24 hours, 17 new infections were reported and there were no more deaths. In total, the country has 360,563 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 17,703 deaths due to the pandemic this Monday.
Epidemiologists have warned, on previous occasions, that these days with a low number of infections is not because, in effect, the positivity of the contagion has been reduced. On the contrary, they claim that there is mismanagement in the collection of PCR samples and their processing. So there are high peaks of almost five thousand infections in a day, as well as low peaks, like today.
Pichincha has 16, of the 17 infections that were registered nationwide, all are located in Quito. The province adds a total of 125,744 diagnosed with the virus and reaches 3,009 deaths. Quito amounts to 116,169 more infected.
