Tuarez arrested for alleged influence peddling

Jose Carlos Tuarez would have offered high-level positions in a public institution.

Former president of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS), Jose Carlos Tuarez was arrested along with 31 others as part of an investigation for the alleged crime of influence peddling.

At the moment, previous investigations argue that Tuarez would have offered high-level positions in a public institution. As evidence, checks drawn up to USD 3 million would have been found.

Meanwhile, former President Rafael Correa published on his Twitter account that Tuarez’s arrest responds to political persecution against him. “Tuarez is not holy of my devotion, but it is not about that, it is about obvious political persecutions. I ask you a question: are we crazy?”

On August 14, the Plenary Session of the National Assembly censored and dismissed Jose Tuarez, from the presidency of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS) with 84 votes.

After his apprehension, he was transferred to Verdi Cevallos hospital for a medical check-up. Among the people arrested would also be a passive police officer.
