The alarming figures for the increase in infections, deaths and hospital occupancy forced the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE) to take new measures to prevent more cases of COVID-19.
The president of the National COE warned that Pichincha is the province with the most complications, especially in hospital capacity. The waiting list is 211 people who need to be admitted, but there is no more space in the hospitals, while Guayas registers 89 waiting patients and Manabí 67.
While in Loja, Bolívar, Santo Domingo, Cañar, even Amazonian provinces such as Napo, and Sucumbíos, they have had an alarming increase in the positivity of infections.
Next Friday, April 2, the Easter Holiday begins, so the authorities took the following measures:
-Exhorts the local governments, of the coastal axis, to close the beaches during the holidays (from April 2 to 4), as well as to control the consumption of alcoholic beverages.
-All public events are suspended
-Ask the cantonal COEs to take greater measures on mobility in each territory
-To the 24 Provincial COEs that are in permanent session from Tuesday, March 30, together with the cantonal COEs to establish the necessary measures.
In addition, President Lenin reported that the circulation for light vehicles on national roads is restricted. A plate control will be applied as follows:
On Thursday 1 and Saturday 3 April, vehicles with an odd license plate will not be allowed to circulate between 00:00 and 12:00. While on Friday 2 and Sunday 4 April, vehicles with an even license plate will not be able to circulate, at this same time.
He also announced the prohibition of the sale and consumption of alcohol from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 2 and Saturday, April 3. This measure will also be in effect on April 30 and May 1, during the International Workers’ Day holiday.
Juan Zapata insisted that the restrictive measures, although they are a blow to the economy, seek to oxygenate the national health system because the number of daily deaths from COVID-19 has also risen.
Only so far in March of this year, compared to the figure for March 2020, there has been a growth of 25%.
