The number of hospitalized patients continues to grow, despite the fact that there are no more spaces in hospitals. This Monday, March 29, 2021, with 1.653 patients, the country reaches a new record number of hospitalized, between stable and serious.
In sentinel hospitals to treat COVID-19 cases, people with complications from COVID-19 wait on the ground or, in the best of cases, on makeshift mats. In Pichincha, above all, the hospital capacity was exceeded and has, at the moment, a waiting list of 211 people, Guayas 89 patients waiting and Manabí 67.
This Monday, there are 1.653 hospitalized: 1.083 stable hospitalized and 570 with a reserved prognosis. Figures never before registered at the national level. While the number of hospital discharges, this day, is 66.
On March 24, 1.403 hospitalized patients were registered, since then there has been a worrying increase. On March 25 there were 1.524, on March 26 it went to 1.537, by March 28 there were 1.624 hospitalized daily.
The number of infections also continues to increase. There are 642 new diagnoses and eight more deaths in the last 24 hours. In total, the country has 325.124 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 16.746 deaths due to the pandemic.
In March, the positivity rate in some provinces maintained a sustained increase. This week, Pichincha went from 23% to 27%, Guayas from 51% to 53%, Sucumbíos rose from 37% to 43%, Bolívar from 43% to 47%, among the provinces with the highest increase in their infection rate.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 281.684 recovered patients have been registered, representing 86.81% of the total infected. In the last week, from March 22 to 28, there were 9.837 more people who overcame the disease.
Pichincha has 414 new infections on Monday and one more death, adding a total of 113.372 diagnosed with the virus and 2.803 deaths. Quito registers 392 more infected and amounts to 104.791 cases in the Ecuadorian capital.
