Uruguayan president takes new measures to fight Covid-19

(Prensa Latina) President Luis Lacalle Pou ordered the suspension as of Wednesday of the obligation to attend face-to-face classes in primary schools, among the very few measures to fight the Covid-19 pandemic at its worst moment in the country.

In turn, the departmental governments bordering Brazil in a red-risk zone can completely suspend the presence of junior high students at schools, subject to the approval by the National Education Council.

Amateur sports were also suspended and locker rooms in clubs and gyms were closed.

Regarding public transportation, a 50-percent capacity will be allowed in departmental buses, while public shows will accommodate up to 400 spectators.

Such announcements, presented at a press briefing after a meeting of the Council of Ministers, included few of the recommendations made by the Honorary Scientific Advisory Group (GACH), with which the president met before.

The opening of bars and restaurants only for home services, the closure of cinemas and theaters, the suspension of non-essential customer services in state offices, teleworking and the preventive reduction of mobility was advised at a GACH document.
