(Prensa Latina) Peru´s Presidency disavowed former Foreign Minister Elizabeth Astete´s statement that President Francisco Sagasti authorized her to be vaccinated irregularly.
A statement denied Astete’s statement to a parliamentary commission, that last January she informed Sagasti and then Health Minister Pilar Mazzetti of her intention to accept the offer of researchers who were testing the Chinese Sinopharm vaccines to get the jab.
‘My acceptance was given by President´s approval,’ said Astete, who told lawmakers that she talked to the president before getting vaccinated, according to journalistic and parliamentary versions.
‘It is not true that President Francisco Sagasti has authorized or given his consent for former minister´s irregular vaccination,’ the document stated.
On February 14, after irregular vaccination scandal emerged, Astete informed the president that she had been vaccinated irregularly and resigned from office. The document also pointed out that Sagasti was unaware of the extra batch of Sinopharm vaccines used for the controversial irregular vaccination.
