Lawmakers in Brazil approve emergency aid in runoff

(Prensa Latina) The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies approved in runoff a proposal that authorizes the resumption of emergency economic aid for informal and unemployed workers facing Covid-19, it was confirmed on Friday.

In this round, the text was approved by 356 votes for, 131 against and one abstention.

As this is a proposal to amend the Constitution, the matter needed at least 308 ballots for to be sanctioned in the Legislature.

Already approved in the Senate, the bill allows a maximum expenditure of 7.9 billion dollars.

The initiative authorizes the resumption of emergency aid: the benefit should be created through a provisional measure after its enactment by Congress and the first payment should occur by late March.
