International actors reject suggestion of military intervention in Ecuador’s electoral process

Following the suggestion of the member of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Simón Espinoza, that “soldiers of the Armed Forces intervene at the polls,” which was supported by the candidate Yaku Pérez, several international actors rejected and condemned this idea.

David Adler, general coordinator of the Progressive International, spoke through his Twitter account and warned that a coup in Ecuador would be intended.

“Yaku Pérez has supported a call” for the Armed Forces to intervene at the polls “and” prevent the return of Correísmo, “said the official.

For its part, the Podemos International Secretariat also echoed this proposal and condemned the calls for an intervention by the Armed Forces at the polls.

“These are crucial moments for democracy in the country and it is essential to ensure that it is respected. # ecuadordecide2021 «, spread the international organization, in its social networks

In an article published in Diario El Comercio, Espinoza raises five suggestions, within the framework of the electoral process, how to replace the members of the National Electoral Council with their alternates or alternates; declare the first electoral round void and repeat the elections; as well as the intervention of the Comptroller and Attorney General’s Office in the CNE’s computer systems.
