Rains cause flooding in several provinces

The provinces affected in the last downpours are: Esmeraldas, Manabí, Guayas and Cotopaxi.

The continuous rains in the country have caused the overflow of rivers in the provinces of Esmeraldas, Manabí and Guayas, in addition, several crops were also flooded in the rural area of ​​Latacunga.

In Guayaquil the rain lasted almost 12 hours and caused 65 emergencies, the water collector systems were overwhelmed by the large amount of liquid and 39 points in the city reported accumulation of fluids.

José González, coordinator of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi) in Guayaquil, explained that in the last 24 hours the rainfall was of strong to extremely strong intensity. The accumulated water in the center of the city exceeds 100 millimeters and in the south it almost reaches 150.

The downpours also caused significant damage in 12 sectors of the cantons of Atacames and Esmeraldas. The ECU-911 of the province confirmed that it received 41 calls from citizens who warned of flooding in their homes due to the flooding of rivers and the estuary.

Manabí is also suffering the ravages of the strong winter, the cantons of Santa Ana, Portoviejo, Manta, Rocafuerte, Tosagua, Chone, San Vicente and Sucre reported flooding and lack of electricity.

In the canton of Portoviejo, 80 families were evacuated from the Riochico, Abdón Calderón and Pueblo Nuevo parishes. Meanwhile, in the Colón sector, the “El Cady” bridge was closed due to the high flow of the river.

Latacunga is also suffering the ravages of the storm that flooded seven houses and fields of corn, alfalfa, oats and grass in the Santa Clara, Calvario, La Floresta and San Pedro neighborhoods of the Tanicuchí parish.
