Countdown in Bolivia remains unchanged after cyber attack

(Prensa Latina) Despite the external cyber attack on the web page set up to monitor the countdown to the regional election in Bolivia, the process remains unchanged on Wednesday, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE, in Spanish) reported.

The oep.org.bo website was attacked on Tuesday night. In order to mitigate it, the attack ‘mode’ on the firewall of the web apps of the institution was activated, the TSE revealed in a statement circulating on social media.

The statement reported that the attempt at destabilizing that computer system did not paralyze the website of the election results. ‘They remain unchanged and are a trustworthy reflection of those that are being processed in the departamental counts that are being carried out across the country at the moment.

On the other hand, TSE President Salvador Romero on Tuesday received a report from the Observa Bolivia civic platform, which highlighted the organized and peaceful conduction of the voting in accordance with the established procedure.

Despite delays in several facilities due to the creation of juries at polling stations and the long lines of voters, the document highlights the fulfillment of the TSE guidelines with biosecurity measures due to the second Covid-19 outbreak in the country.

Romero stressed the implementation of the recommendations made by the civic platform during last year’s general elections regarding technical and logistic improvements.

He explained that one of the adjustments was speeding up the election process and standardizing the count criterion of all minutes for the election of government and municipal authorities at each polling station.
