This Sunday, March 7, 2021, the Ministry of Health of Peru confirmed that they will advance the vaccination against Covid-19 for older adults.
Phase I of vaccination in Peru aims to “protect the integrity of the health system, the elderly and the continuity of basic services.” Therefore, by means of a decree, the incorporation of people over 60 years of age was made official.
The Peruvian authorities admit that initially this population group was not included in the first phase; however, due to their “vulnerability and the importance of their protection” they were included.
The regulatory framework of Peru for this first phase of vaccination in Peru includes all persons who provide services in different institutions in the health sector, the National Police, the Armed Forces, the General Fire Department and the Red Cross, security personnel, among others.
On the other hand, in phase II of vaccination, people with comorbidity, population of native or indigenous communities, personnel of the National Penitentiary Institute of Peru (INPE) and people deprived of liberty will be considered, in order to «reduce severe morbidity and mortality in the population at highest risk ”.
