35% of health workers who died with coronavirus would correspond to female staff

According to the Ministry of Health until January 2021, around 10.369 health servers were infected with coronavirus in Ecuador and 104 died. But, for the Ecuadorian Medical Federation, the death toll does not match their statistics.

The entity points out that since the pandemic began, more than 300 health workers have died from Covid-19, of that total, 35% are women.

Mónica Patricia Valverde was a nurse at the IESS hospital in Riobamba until she was infected and she died on August 1, 2020.

Like her, other health workers have died. On this International Women’s Day, they took the opportunity to remember those women who gave their lives to save other people’s.

Gabriela Escobar, Mónica’s daughter, highlighted the work carried out by health personnel on a daily basis.

Gina Mendoza, president of the Guayas Nurses, thanked all the nurses who are no longer there for her work.

Likewise, Marlene Costales, from the Chimborazo College of Nurses, did.
