The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) reported that 42.708 hectares and 47.017 animals were affected by the ash fall from the Sangay volcano this past weekend. The authorities confirmed that there is no total loss of crops or dead animals.
The MAG provided aid in several affected sectors such as 60 food bags for the areas of Cumanda and Pallatanga in the province of Chimborazo, in addition, the arrival of food for livestock and also for other smaller species was also confirmed.
In the Chunchi area, up to 1.000 kg of feed for cattle and 6.750 kg of silage were delivered to guarantee the feeding of cattle. This was also replicated in the Suncamal sector, where more help for producers arrived.
For his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Xavier Lazo, toured the areas most affected by the ash fall and spoke with the mayors of several cantons to coordinate the arrival of more aid to the different producers.
The ash from the Sangay volcano on Saturday, March 6, reached a height of up to 2 kilometers and the winds carried it to the provinces of Chimborazo, Bolívar, Guayas and others. The heavy rains that fell in some sectors prevented a further spread of volcanic dust.
