The capital of Ecuador begins March with 98% occupancy of ICU beds

The occupancy of beds in Intensive Care Units (ICU) in the Metropolitan District of Quito reached 98%, due to the increase in confirmed cases of coronavirus. While the occupation of hospital beds in the hospital network is 86%.

This is detailed in the report of the Ministry of Health of the Capital Municipality, which indicates that the demand for ICU has increased due to the agglomerations registered on the Carnival holiday and during the electoral process.

According to this entity, the fatality rate is 2.2%, while the context fatality rate is 2.7%. On the other hand, the excess mortality rate increased to 43.6% in February.

Until this March 1, 2021, Quito registers 92.934 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and according to the study, the ten sectors with the most infected throughout the city are: Chillogallo, Iñaquito, Calderón (Carapungo), Cotocollao, Guamaní, La Magdalena, Conoco, Chimbacalle.
