In Ecuador a judge orders the Ministry of Health to hand over the list of those vaccinated against COVID-19

Judge Celma Espinosa granted the constitutional action for access to public information and ordered the Ministry of Health to hand over the list of those vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Popular Legal Action Collective presented this appeal, given the irregularities in the vaccination plan, as well as the complaints against the former Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, for favoring the doses to family and friends.

The judge set a period of 15 days to deliver the information. In addition to the list, the Ministry must disclose the vaccine procurement contracts with the different pharmaceutical companies (Pfizer and Sinopharm) with which it agreed to purchase the vaccines. In his last intervention, Zevallos said that it is confidential information and, laughing, said that this information cannot be delivered.

A little more than 41.000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine have arrived in Ecuador. The first batch arrived on January 20, the second and third batch in the last weeks of February. Another shipment with 30.000 more doses and a million Chinese Sinovac vaccines is scheduled to arrive until Sunday, March 7.

After the resignation and departure from the country of the Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, on a flight to Miami, United States, criticism of the vaccination plan increased.

Zevallos left the country in the middle of a criminal process against him for alleged influence peddling, after admitting that he vaccinated his mother, despite the fact that he was not part of the first group of beneficiaries of the vaccines. The journalist Diego Oquendo, who also does not belong to the priority groups of phase 0, also admitted that he received the first dose.
