First results of the Ecuadorian elections will be known between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 7

The first results of the general elections will be known between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. this Sunday, February 7, 2021. This was announced by the president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Diana Atamaint, at a press conference with the National COE, Forces Armed Forces, National Police and National Transit Agency, where they presented the Operational Plan for the elections this Sunday.

Atamaint explained that the electoral authorities will be able to know the results once the quick count stabilizes and that this depends on the processing of the Vote Receiving Boards.

In addition, she stressed that the official results are expected to be known before midnight. “Let’s hope that before midnight we can already have a trend of how the vote count is being recorded in all the electoral precincts,” she clarified.

Regarding the error in the printing of more than six thousand ballots, the head of the electoral body clarified that these will not be destroyed and remain under the protection of the Military Geophysical Institute. She also assured that these ballots will not be misused.

“Protocols must be followed to remove these electoral ballots and also, the State Comptroller General has been asked to carry out a special study and these tests have to be there,” she emphasized.

The president of the CNE indicated that the electoral silence and the Prohibition Law will begin at 00:00 this Friday, February 05. In the same way, she showed her concern for the elections abroad, due to the restriction measures applied in the different countries where Ecuadorian migrants will exercise their right to vote.
