European Parliament will not observe elections in Ecuador

MEPs David McAllister and Tomas Tobé, co-presidents of the Andean Parliament announced, through a statement, that this international body will not observe the general elections in Ecuador, to be held this Sunday, February 7, 2021.

In the letter issued this Wednesday, February 3, Parliament explains that it will not comment on the process, or the results of the electoral day in the country.

The organization clarified that none of its members has been designated as an international observer, for which it explained that “if any MEP decides to attend the elections as an observer, they will do so in their personal capacity and should not, under any circumstances, associate their participation with Parliament. European”.

According to information from the National Electoral Council, 2.134 national and 225 international observers have been accredited. Among the international organizations that will observe the democratic process are the European Union (EU); the Organization of American States (OAS); the Inter-American Union of Electoral Organizations (Uniore); the World Association of Electoral Bodies (A-WEB).
