First 300.000 doses of the Chinese vaccine against Covid-19 arrive in Peru

The Peruvian government reached an agreement with Sinopharm for the purchase of up to 38 million doses.

The first 300.000 doses of the Chinese vaccine against Covid-19 arrived in Peru this Sunday, February 7, 2021. The country faces a second wave of infections, therefore, it hopes to start its immunization process as quickly as possible.

Peru expects to receive 1 million doses of vaccines against Covid-19 until next February 14, the government of the South American country reached an agreement with Sinopharm to buy up to 38 million doses.

“We are ready to start the immunization plan giving priority to health personnel in the most critical regions. Solidarity and responsibility will restore our trust and hope ”, commented President Francisco Sagasti.

Sinopharm’s drug requires two injections to immunize people and according to its latest studies it is 79.34% effective. The vaccine received its approval in late December 2020.
