More than 1.200 people were arrested, for various crimes, during election day

1.219 people were arrested for various crimes during election day this Sunday, February 7, 2021. This was the result of 19.473 operations nationwide carried out by the National Police.

388 citizens were apprehended by ballots of urgency, capture and aid. In addition, the police officers delivered 292 citations to citizens who violated Art. 291, numeral 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the Code of Democracy.

On the other hand, eight citizens were arrested for carrying out electoral propaganda on the days prohibited by law; there were six arrested for altering or disturbing the voting process and another 6 for appearing to vote in a drunken state.

In the province of Manabí it was where more electoral anomalies were registered. In this province, 13 people were arrested for crimes such as theft of ballots or allowing identity theft.
