The candidate Andrés Arauz expressed his rejection of the urgent economic bill sent by the Government because, he said, it seeks to privatize the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE).
At a press conference, Arauz expressed his satisfaction at having more than one million votes over the two candidates who are competing for second place.
He informed that they have, so far, 50 assembly members who will be part of the next legislative term.
He called on all political actors to non-violence and maintain an atmosphere of peace, after the February 7 elections.
“We prefer to participate with who the people have decided and we welcome that second round,” said Arauz when asked who he would prefer to compete with in the second round, Yaku Pérez or Guillermo Lasso.
He said that the National Electoral Council (CNE) made the mistake of pronouncing results in the quick count because, those who dispute the second place, had a very short margin.
Regarding the alliances for the elections on April 11, the candidate indicated that they are open to all sectors to join his political project.
He called on the legislative blocks to reach a programmatic agreement to avoid deepening “a neoliberal agenda that seeks privatization in the country.”
He expressed his open opposition to the urgent economic law sent by the Government for the privatization of the Central Bank of Ecuador. “We are not going to allow a law to be passed where it contemplates that the positions that the government leaves appointed (as board of directors of the Bank) have a longer term than the incoming government,” he added.
He also rejected that, in this Law, it is intended to reform the Law so that the next government cannot change the norms on credit restructuring.
“If this government approves this privatization law, it will leave without effective instruments so that the next government can make positive changes in credit matters,” he said.
If it is approved, the next Assembly must correct it as soon as possible. He assured that the bill addresses Constitutional articles.
The candidate called for joint work with business sectors for the benefit of citizens and reiterated that he will strengthen dollarization with the entry of more money into the country.
