The National Agency for Health Regulation, Control and Surveillance (Arcsa) determined that there is insufficient evidence for or against the use of the drug ivermectin to treat the coronavirus
The institution supported the research of the Ecuadorian Society of Pharmacology (SEF) and recommended that citizens not use Ivermectin if they have a family member infected or as a prevention.
In January, the Guayaquil mayor’s office conducted a deworming campaign with this drug with the expectations that it could treat the coronavirus, according to Mayor Cynthia Viteri
On the other hand, she confirmed that all pharmacies will have to request a prescription from people who want to buy a drug containing Ivermectin.
The authorities also confirmed that controls will be increased to all pharmacies nationwide, to verify that their measures are being complied with. If the establishments sell Ivermectin without a prescription, they could face from temporary closures to different financial fines.
