The Ministry of Economy and Finance indicated that the National Electoral Council (CNE) will have the necessary resources for the counting of votes related to the presidential elections of last Sunday, February 7.
In a statement, he stated that the Government guarantees the electoral body the availability of the budget it requires to demonstrate a transparent electoral process that strengthens democracy.
Although other candidates for the Presidency of the Republic have requested a recount, the main actor in this requirement is Yaku Pérez, from Pachakutik, who maintained a close competition with Guillermo Lasso, from CREO, for passing along with Andrés Arauz, from UNES, to the second electoral round.
Pachakutik requested the recount of votes in seven provinces (Pichincha, Guayas, Manabí, Los Ríos, Esmeraldas, El Oro and Bolívar), in which they have detected inconsistencies in the minutes.
Pachakutik sympathizers set up a camp outside the CNE on Thursday, February 11, to “defend the votes” and announced a permanent and peaceful vigil.
Pérez insisted that a fraud was built against him and in his letter presented to the CNE he urged that the electoral packages be opened and even proposed to speak with Lasso, who agreed to discuss the issue this Friday, February 12, at 11:00 in the CNE, in Quito.
