Authorities are investigating 4 coronavirus mutations in the state of Jalisco.
The Institute for Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (InDRE) of Mexico is studying a possible new variant of Covid-19 in its territory, as confirmed by Ruy López Ridaura, general director of the National Center for Preventive Programs and Disease Control.
This Sunday, January 31, 2021, Mexico alarmed the whole world by confirming that 4 cases of Covid-19 have begun to mutate in the state of Jalisco. Researchers are still determining if a new variant is coming and what characteristics it would have.
Initially, it was considered to be the South African strain, however, shortly afterwards this possibility was ruled out and “very serious” studies were started to determine if this is a new variant.
Mexico reports 1’864.260 coronavirus infections and is one of the most affected countries in the world, therefore, its authorities are working together with the University of Guadalajara, to find out if this variant will have a potential change in the course of the pandemic.
