Guatemalan Police and Army detain caravan of Honduran migrants

The more than 9.000 Honduran citizens escape the violence, poverty, unemployment and lack of health that plagues their country, for which, they want to reach Mexico and then the United States.

This Sunday, January 17, 2021, the Guatemalan security forces detained and repressed the caravans of Honduran migrants that tried to reach Mexico and then the United States. The uniformed men attacked the people with tear gas and sticks.

This giant caravan of more than 9,000 Honduran migrants is stranded in Guatemala, where the authorities are not taking the step for these people to reach Mexico. Some citizens are reported to have lost their documents while trying to escape police violence.

The Guatemalan police and army commented that some people in the caravan were carrying weapons, which is why they were not going to let them enter the country. According to various Honduran authorities, 3,000 people have separated from the great crowd in order to advance to their destination and others to return to their country.

For their part, Honduran migrants say they are leaving their country to escape poverty, violence, unemployment, lack of education and health, these crises increased during the Covid-19 pandemic.
