This Monday, January 18, 2021, the first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine will not arrive as announced by President Lenín Moreno. In an interview for a digital medium, Juan Sebastián Roldán, Cabinet Secretary, announced that the Pfizer vaccines will arrive this Wednesday, January 20.
“The vaccine arrives in Quito and from there a transfer will be made to all the cities. We will start in parallel in more than ten cities in the country to work with health personnel ”, he said. Once the first doses arrive, the official explained that they will begin with immediate application in the 10 vaccination points of the country.
Regarding prices, he pointed out that the Pfizer vaccine applies differentiated prices and depends on the purchasing power of each country. The final price of the vaccine is in a range between $ 10 and $ 20 dollars. “There are vaccines that will be cheaper and others more expensive. We are talking with all of them in order to have the greatest capacity for vaccination ”, he added.
So far, the Government has allocated $ 200 million for vaccines, according to the Cabinet Secretary, who specified that more than $ 4 million have been disbursed to guarantee the first doses. Roldán mentioned that there are 86 thousand vaccinations until March and 15 thousand will be applied per week.
