Protests in the Netherlands leave 180 detainees

Citizens demand the new curfew from 9:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. imposed by the authorities.

The Netherlands Police confirmed that on Monday night, January 25, 2021, they arrested more than 180 people protesting against the new measures imposed by the government, to counter the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new restrictions in the Netherlands include a mandatory curfew for all citizens from 9:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

The cities most affected by clashes between police and protesters were: Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam.

The soldiers have had to resort to the use of water jets and tear gas to disperse hundreds of citizens.

On the other hand, looting was reported in several stores and shopping centers, for which the authorities have defined the protests as: “criminal violence.”

The demonstrations in the Netherlands have been happening since last Sunday, January 24, 2021, when the measures were known. However, they were cataloged by the media and authorities as the worst in 40 years.
