Thirty-eight people from the LGBTIQ + community registered their candidacies for the constituent elections that will be held on April 11, for the Convention that will write the new Magna Carta, according to a registry published by the LesConstituidores observatory.
17 of the 28 districts of the country (61 percent of the electoral districts) will have applicants from that community, according to data collected by the independent platform, which seeks to monitor and analyze the constitutional process to ensure the visibility of issues relevant to sexual diversity .
71% of the candidates want to represent districts of the central zone of Chile, 21% the south and 8% the north.
Of the total number of candidacies, 17 correspond to lists of independents and 21 to lists of political parties.
In the party lists, 15 candidates correspond to militants and another six candidates were given a place within the list.
“We do not identify LGBTIQ + candidates on the lists of the ruling party (Chile Vamos),” the observatory warned in a statement.
In the case of the Constituent Unit, where the former Concertación parties are grouped, it was the Socialist Party that had the largest number of spaces: two.
