Japan declares emergency in Tokyo due to increase in Covid-19 cases

The Japanese capital reported this Thursday 2.447 new infections.

This Thursday, January 7, 2021, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga declared a state of emergency for a month in Tokyo and its surroundings, due to the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Suga commented that with this new measure, local governments will be able to take new biosecurity alternatives that slow the advance of the pandemic in the archipelago.

The new regulations taken by local authorities range from establishing opening and closing hours for different local businesses. In addition, citizens must stay at home, but without mandatory confinement.

In Japan, there is a fear that the new coronavirus will complicate the country’s social situation and put the economy back in crisis.

This Thursday the Japanese capital reported 2 447 new infections, which is a new record for the country. While in the whole country the 7 000 daily cases were exceeded for the first time.
